Development planning

AZ Urban Studio has secured a new planning permission for the redevelopment of a redundant gap site in Hackney. The consented scheme will include five flats and 400 SqM of affordable B1a office space to be managed by the developer Hackney Co-operative Developments (HCD).  The redundant site is located between two larger developments and backs on to the environmentally sensitive Kingsland Basin.

The delicate nature of the site, as well as its long planning history, have informed the design response and planning strategy.  The permission was secured through section 73 and changes include improved elevational design and substantially improved environmental performance.  Crucially, the permission substantially increased the residential floor areas, helping to cross subsidise the commercial space whilst protecting the amenity of adjoining owners and improving the design.

AZ Urban Studio prepared and manged the application as well as undertaking all post application negotiations with the Local Planning Authority.
