Shaping the development process
AZ Urban Studio was commissioned by Union Street, a joint venture between Dorrington Properties plc and Lake Estates to act as planning consultant and development manager on their 12,000 Union Square project. The Union Square project located on Union Street in Southwark, is an exciting solution to a complex urban condition. The development is of four small underused sites south of the railway viaduct which until now has acted as a barrier to the southward spread of Bankside's regeneration, and as a perceptual barrier to people visiting the Tate Modern migrating South. The scheme aims to regenerate the underused sites, by providing a new design led quality development adding interest, employment and housing to the area. The mixture of uses will benefit those who live and work locally, as well as attracting new employers and residents. Union Square includes 85 apartments, 2,500 sq m of offices, retail and leisure.
