St Margarets – Wellbeing Centre

Development planning

AZ Urban Studio, in collaboration with Sergison Bates Architects, has secured planning permission and listed building consent for a three storey wellbeing centre in the curtilage of the listed St Margaret’s House. St Margaret’s House is a unique charity supporting creativity & wellbeing in Bethnal Green; it provides space and services to more than 25 third sector organisations.

The new building will incorporate a range of uses including a new hall, yoga studio and office space. A new small square will be created as part of a broader landscaping and wayfinding strategy, Improving the setting and views of the listed chapel.

AZ Urban Studio advised on overarching planning strategy and acted as agent for the applications. As part of these roles, AZ Urban Studio prepared planning material including the planning statement and heritage assessment. We assisted with public engagement and led negotiations with the Local Planning Authority. Planning permission was secured, from the London Borough of Tower Hamlets under delegated authority.
