West Hampstead Interchange

Development planning

AZ Urban Studio was commissioned by Transport for London, Network Rail and London Borough of Camden to assess the viability of the proposed redevelopment of the West Hampstead Interchange, incorporating a replacement station, the introduction of new residential and retail accommodation and public realm improvements.

The services involved the collation of background research outlining market conditions, planning and land ownership issues and other risk items. Outputs included the production of feasibility studies modelling the different design options and different scenarios to inform the design development, thereby allowing the client to make informed decisions and take the project forward.

A detailed examination of the feasibility of residential accommodation to contribute towards station funding was also undertaken.

Planning permission for the development was granted in early 2010.
