Development planning

AZ Urban Studio has advised the site owners over a number of years providing both planning and development consultancy. Following the production of a range of feasibility studies, it was decided by the client to redevelop part of the estate to create a high density mixed use scheme to maximise the potential offered by the highly accessible location.

AZ Urban Studio led the preparation and submission of a full planning application. The innovative design of the main building by AHMM architects responds to the sensitive and historic context by proposing a reinterpretation of the traditional warehouse.  The building increases in height from 4 to 7 storeys acting as an interface between the Bermondsey Street conservation area to the east and larger more functional townscape to the west.

The development comprises of 525 Sq M of new B1 office accommodation at ground and lower ground with eight large apartments at the upper level. This configuration maximises the development volume while minimising impact to the neighbouring properties and delicate surrounding context.

Planning permission was granted by the London Borough of Southwark in 2014. The building is now complete, fully sold, and has won a number of national awards.
