AZ Urban Studio has secured planning permission (subject to Legal Agreement) for a major development in the historic centre of Northampton. The development includes the construction of 48 private flats and the refurbishment of the existing retail units. The development will facilitate physical improvements to a slightly tired looking building and provide much-needed town centre homes.
AZ Urban Studio led the preparation and submission of a full planning application, successfully balancing the various planning objectives including, optimisation of the site, housing delivery, affordable housing provision and heritage issues.
AZ Urban Studio acted as agent, managed all specialist sub-consultants and prepared the planning statement. We undertook all negotiation with the Local Authority and led the public engagement process.
Church Lukas architect who led on all design issues has conceived a development, which optimises the development volume while minimising impact to the neighbouring properties and the delicate surrounding context. The proposed development, although taller than the some of the surrounding context responds sensitively to the context.
The Council planning committee unanimously resolved to grant planning permission for this mixed-use project.– Back to projects
