Thrale Road – Plan (image: Groves Natcheva Architects)

Thrale Road, Streatham, London

Development planning

AZ Urban Studio has helped secure a valuable planning permission for a courtyard development of houses and flats in Streatham, South London. We were commissioned to advise on the planning matters associated with the redevelopment of this backland site, which has very limited access.

The client wished to maximise the value of this complex site, which originally accommodated a number of derelict garages and had an expired planning permission for six houses.  This objective was achieved by optimising density and increasing the number of homes to nineteen.

AZ Urban Studio advised on the full range of planning matters and assisted the design team, led by the project architects Groves Natcheva. As part of the planning application process, AZ Urban Studio advised on planning strategy, including affordable housing and consultation, assisted with the selection of specialist sub-consultants and prepared the Planning Statement. In addition, AZ Urban Studio provided the townscape and heritage components of the Design and Access Statement.

This exciting project builds on our expertise and track record of similar mid-sized high-density schemes on complex and challenging sites in London, such as Wanstead High Street and Shepherdess Walk. It also builds on our ongoing relationship and success with Groves Natcheva architects, which includes projects such as Woodville Road and 9 Chesterfield Street.
