Woodlands

Development planning

AZ Urban Studio secured planning permission for the demolition of a two storey dwellinghouse within the Green Belt and the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and its replacement with a larger replacement two storey dwelling with a basement level.

Using the demolition of several redundant outbuildings on the site as justification for a larger dwelling, we were able to put forward a strong argument to justify compliance with stringent Green Belt planning policy.

Jane Duncan Architects designed a contemporary replacement dwelling with extensive glazing which allows an intimate relationship between inside living spaces and the generous existing domestic garden at the site. The introduction of a natural pool with native planted margins, the use of a green roof, and the retention of the existing dense boundary treatment assist integration of the contemporary design dwelling into this sensitive landscape. We successfully argued that the design responds to and respects the essential qualities of the receiving landscape, and will enhance the scenic beauty of the AONB.

The project is one of a number of private residential schemes in the Green Belt that we are currently working on with Jane Duncan Architects.
